Lee Container chosen as Small Business of the Year. 05/05/03 -- Lee Container Corporation was recently named Georgia's Manufacturer of the Year, Small Business Category, by Georgians for Manufacturing. The announcement was made at the Governor's Awards luncheon at the Cobb Galleria in Atlanta on April 17, 2003. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue made the presentation to Lee Container CEO Don Lee at the culmination of Manufacturing Appreciation Week in Georgia. "We feel humbled to receive this great honor," Lee said. "and we're proud of the Lee Container family. Teamwork has been the key in the growth of our plastic bottle business." He also thanked the city, county, and state governments as well as the local Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Authority for their efforts in providing a cooperative environment that has led to the Company's success. Located in Homerville, Georgia, Lee Container produces blowmolded plastic containers used in industries ranging from motor oil to agricultural crop protection products. The company was founded in 1989 and serves customers with both national and international operations. "Georgians for Manufacturing" is an effort to support Georgia’s industrial development by the "Quick Start Program", an arm of the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education. The Department of Industry, Trade, and Tourism also sponsors "Georgians for Manufacturing". The two organizations sponsor Manufacturing Appreciation Week as an annual week-long recognition of manufacturing's contributions to the state. Lee Container was nominated for the award by Okefenokee Technical College, the City of Homerville, and the Clinch County Chamber of Commerce. Robert Varnedoe, V.P.
